Student life

Aberystwyth offers an excellent environment in which students can find their independence away from home. Our accommodation is located on, or within easy walking distance of, the campus and we guarantee accommodation to all first year students in our award-winning halls, which was voted Best in the UK by WhatUni? Student Choice Awards 2022. We also include a free gym membership and access to our Sports Centre and facilities.

The local area is the ideal place for those interested in outdoor activities or looking to explore new pursuits, with sandy beaches and internationally renowned National Parks on its doorstep. Students spend their spare time hiking, biking, surfing and sailing, or socialising in one of Aberystwyth’s many bars, restaurants and cafes.

Our Students’ Union offers sociable and relaxing spaces to study and unwind. It’s home to over 100 clubs and societies, ranging from Anime to Debating, and the many sports clubs include Football, Rugby, Hiking, Sailing and Surfing.

With beautiful hills and coastlines to explore by foot, bike, surfboard or zipline, Wales offers a great student experience and a wide range of universities connected to their local communities.

The country has a little of everything – historic cities like Cardiff and Swansea, pretty coastal towns, and three national parks including Snowdonia, home to the highest mountain in Wales. If you love the outdoors, you’ll be right at home.

Wales has a long history of sporting achievement, literature, and history. Perhaps you'll hear some tales over some rarebit – a traditional dish that puts cheese on toast to shame.
