How to support students in Clearing

Applicants who are eligible for Clearing will see their Clearing number on both their welcome page, and in the ‘Your Choices’ section of Track.

Three steps a student needs to take if they are in Clearing:

  1. Research their options. Clearing course vacancies will be listed in our search tool.
  2. Contact the uni to discuss whether they will accept them.
  3. If the university has agreed to offer them a place and they wish to accept it, they need to click ‘Add Clearing Choice’ in Track, from 10:00 (UK time) on SQA results day, and 15:00 (UK time) on A level results day.

When a student calls the university, they should have:

  • their Clearing number, so the university can confirm they are in Clearing
  • their Personal ID, so the university can find their application
  • the course code for the vacancy they are interested in
  • details of the subjects they have studied, their results, and a clear understanding of why they want to study that course at that university or college

Reminders

  • If an applicant decides to apply through Clearing, it’s important they remember to include any contextual information which might warrant special consideration.
  • The Exam Results Helpline will be available to provide impartial advice to students, parents, and carers about the options available. Find out more.
  • We’re once again offering our direct contact service to applicants – designed to help those who find themselves without a university or college place on 16 August 2018.

2. One of my students has been made an unconditional offer – are they eligible for Adjustment?

This depends on how the unconditional offer was made to the student, as Adjustment can only be used by applicants who have met and exceeded their conditional firm offer.

If the student was originally conditional firm and this has then been confirmed by the university, then they may be eligible for Adjustment if they met and exceeded the conditions of their offer.

If the student was made an unconditional offer from the outset, they would not be eligible for Adjustment.

Find out more about who is eligible for Adjustment.

3. What will I receive on results day as a UCAS correspondent?

Adviser Track subscribers will receive an email on SQA and A level results day, with a list of students who have not had their places confirmed, along with the options available. View an example email (133.71 KB)
