Summary

Employability is inevitably the key goal of a good degree, but what does it really look like in a post covid world? Are universities ready and how can we prepare our students for a lifelong career, and a happy life? This interactive session will explore how universities are tackling the challenges, as well as exploring likely career trends you many not be aware of.
  1. Introductions / overview of session.
  2. What is employability? Interactive session - What makes a student employable/how do you teach someone to be employable (mini skills sample session).
  3. Student panel with q&a featuring international students following placements including commentary on reflections of covid placements.
  4. Opportunities / areas of growth in the future – what careers should your students consider / where will future demand be? Interactive quiz with future professions / data included.
  5. Summary and Q&A.

Learning outcomes:

  • To explore which careers will provide opportunity for students in coming years and discuss benefits of certain career paths.
  • To gain insight into how students have adapted their skillset during the pandemic.
  • To deepen knowledge and experience tasters of what universities do to prepare students for the world of work, and what counsellors can do in high school to aid this.
