Accessing law: Embedding real world questions for tomorrow’s professionals

Wednesday 3 February 2021 15:30 – 16:20
Open to all

Summary

As students look towards recession proof professions, more than ever will consider law as a pathway.

This session aims to update colleagues on changes to the legal profession and the qualifying routes (SQE), and the impact this will have on your students.

We will discuss the benefits of embedding relevant and challenging real world questions in careers curriculum, ensuring students question systems, and are equipped with the professional knowledge that they need to excel in their chosen career.

The session will:

  • update advisors on the new routes to qualifying as a solicitor (SQE), and the impact this will have on legal education for students (access to law including the solicitor apprenticeship)
  • cover the benefits of a Law degree to all career pathways (vocational and professional skills)
  • showcase ULaw’s Real World Question Campaign; working towards the Gatsby benchmarks by linking careers guidance to the current real-world questions being asked of professionals
  • discuss whether FE can learn from the HE employability service approach?
