How universities make admissions decisions can appear to be an opaque process. Most advisers and teachers will have experienced students receiving unexpected rejections, and borderline candidates securing an offer by return of post. To help understand how these outcomes occur, delegates will have the opportunity to consider real applications and discuss their merits with Mike Nicholson, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach at the University of Bath and Robbie Pickles, Director of Admissions at Keele University. As an activity, attendees will be provided with selection materials and all the information available to an admissions tutor, but with four applicants and only two places available, who will get the offer?
