Peter Derrick

Director of Admissions Transformation, UCL

Biography

Peter joined UCL in early 2022 to lead an ambitious and transformational programme of work to improve the applicant and staff experience of Admissions at UCL. 

After graduating with a BSc (hons) in Biochemistry and Physiology, Peter served two terms in office as Vice President of his Students' Union. He subsequently worked in a broad range of roles across the institution relating to applicant and student administration at the University of Southampton. 

Peter moved to Middlesex University in early 2013, where he was the Head of Admissions and Visa Compliance, responsible for all aspects of the central admissions service and international student visa processes including running an enhancement project to transform the applicant experience. 

Peter joined UCAS in late 2015 as the Head of Operations, leading the service delivery portfolio. This included the admissions and results services, along with data management and assurance teams to deliver the end-to-end admissions cycle and the annual Confirmation and Clearing activity. He also established the new Digital Learning at UCAS as well being active across the breath of UCAS’ change initiatives. 

He has recently completed an MSc in Systems Thinking in Practice with the Open University, a programme specializing in the development of holistic thinking skills and how you can act to bring about improvements in complex situations. He concentrated on the application of systems methodologies to widening participation in Higher Education.
