Summary

Project qualifications: How researched based learning can support your students’ access and transition to competitive UK degree programmes.

This session will demonstrate to international teachers and advisers the value UK-based higher education providers attribute to research-based project qualifications that students undertake before coming to university. Specifically, we will consider how project qualifications such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Cambridge International Project Qualification (IPQ) can support students with the transition to studying in the UK.

This breakout will offer the perspective of two UK universities – the University of East Anglia and the University of Southampton – demonstrating how and why they respectively incorporate these qualifications into their admissions policies. Furthermore, it will highlight the resources available through their outreach schemes to support teachers, advisers, and their students in developing their research projects.

Learning outcomes

  • Have knowledge of the Cambridge International Project Qualification and its benefits for your students.
  • Recognise how and why universities value project-based qualifications and what their role is in supporting transition to studying in the UK.
  • Identify resources available to support schools and students completing a research project qualification.
