Multiple mini-interviews (MMI) have been cited as better predictors of academic performance and professional behaviour at medical school compared to traditional panel interviews. Developed at McGill and McMaster Universities in Canada, this style of interview has been reported to be a more reliable, fair, and equitable method of selecting for medical school. MMIs are now used by the majority of UK medical schools – as well as many dental and veterinary schools – for selection of both graduates and school-leavers to their programmes. The format and content of MMI varies among providers, but there are many common features that identify them all as MMIs. This session will cover the distinction between MMI and traditional interview, as well as highlighting the attributes, skills, and competencies which MMIs are designed to assess. The sessions aims to be informative, interactive, and practical.
