Getting into medicine

Friday 5 June 2020 14:40
Open to all

Summary

Selection for medical school in the UK is generally dependent on a number of factors in addition to academic performance. Students wishing to study medicine are likely to be expected to sit aptitude tests and provide statements about their motivation and suitability for a medicine course and career.

They will also be required to demonstrate at interview that they have a realistic understanding of what medicine involves, and an ability to demonstrate appropriate values and behaviours. Furthermore, as the style of delivery and learning environment varies considerably among medical schools, students should undertake thorough research into schools and courses before choosing where to apply.

This session will outline the overall process of medical student selection in the UK, and highlight significant differences among medicals schools. It will also identify important criteria for prospective students to explore to ensure they make the best choices for them.
