About us

Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Founded to meet the needs of a changing world, Keele has always had a pioneering vision to be a different kind of university.

We excel in both teaching and research, with some of the most satisfied students in England, and research that is changing lives for the better at a regional, national and global level.

In collaboration with our global partners, we’re tackling some of society’s most urgent problems – including global health, food security and the climate crisis.

Campus life at Keele

Everything’s on your doorstep at Keele, with the most important facilities gathered together at the centre of campus - which at over 600 acres is the biggest in the UK. You’ll soon feel at home, and you’ll make and meet friends wherever you go.

What makes us different

Our beautiful 600-acre campus is one of the biggest in Britain – but all the most important services and facilities are on your doorstep, with accommodation, teaching spaces, facilities including a medical centre, sports centre and pharmacy, and a range of shops, eateries and entertainment venues – including the Students’ Union – clustered around the centre.

We’re proud to be one of the first UK universities to declare a ‘climate emergency’, as well as having ambitious targets to be carbon neutral by 2030.

In 2021 we were named Global Sustainability Institution of the Year, and also completed the installation of 12,500 solar panels and two wind turbines on campus, to generate up to half of our electricity requirements.

The flexibility in my timetable allowed me to take extra modules in other subjects that took my interest. I took the opportunity to do an Industrial Placement Year in between my second and third year of study, which I completed in the HR Department of a pharma company in Liverpool. My first two years at Keele had ideally prepared me for this. Staff were so enthusiastic and approachable, which added to the fun of learning. Lecturers helped me practice for interviews and assessment centres. I could not have chosen a better university to prepare me for my career and give me a better foundation to build onto.
