Supporting students without a family network?

Stand Alone and NUS have teamed up to run their joint campaign, ‘Estranged Students Solidarity Week’, on 26 – 30 November 2018.
Posted Mon 5 November 2018 - 15:48

This week is dedicated to raising awareness of estrangement across higher education, and aims to reach out to students who are studying without the support of a family network (also known as ‘estranged’ students).

It has three main objectives:

  1. To raise awareness about family estrangement, and the many barriers to success that estranged students may face in higher education.
  2. To facilitate wider discussions on family and changing family dynamics.
  3. To encourage universities and colleges to pledge their commitment to working towards further supporting estranged students.

When is it taking place, and how do I get involved?

If you have students who are considering going to university but don’t have support from a family network, encourage them to get involved – all they need to do is follow the week’s activities on social media, using #withestrangedstudents. It will be running from 26 – 30 November.
