About us

Dedicated to defining the future of music, the Royal Northern College of Music is one of the world’s most progressive conservatoires and has remained at the forefront of music education for over 50 years. Placed in the top 10 for music in the QS World University Subject Rankings and rated Gold in all areas of the Teaching Excellence Framework, we are proud to be both a global leader in music education and a world-class public performance venue. Our achievements include six Times Higher Education Awards (among them Entrepreneurial University of the Year), a Global Teaching Excellence Spotlight Award, two Greater China Awards, and three HEIST Awards, all of which highlight our commitment to ensuring that every student can build an incredible future, inspired by music.

What makes us different

Alongside the pioneering Bachelor of Music with Honours, the RNCM Undergraduate School includes the ground-breaking Bachelor of Music with Honours in Popular Music (the UK’s first four-year degree in this subject), the Graduate Diploma of the RNCM (a specialised programme for busy performers and intelligent musical thinkers run in partnership with The University of Manchester), and the newly established Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Inclusive Music Education.

These programmes offer flexibility to create bespoke packages that fully support future career aspirations. They also complement the RNCM Graduate School, which provides a stimulating environment for advanced studies in performance (including conducting), composition, musicology, music psychology, and music education.
