Student life

Friends for life. Life lessons. Finding your passions. Finding yourself. We know what student life is all about. And it’s the people around you who help make the experience one you’ll never forget. That’s why there’s always something happening on campus. From sport competitions to film screenings, live theatre to society socials.

Get out your comfort zone and try something new. Find friends with the same interests as you through our Students’ Union or meet others who share your voice for the greater good. Our on-campus bar and nightclub is also a great place to catch up with friends and make new ones, or you can venture into Ormskirk town centre or catch a train to Liverpool to soak up its culture and nightlife.

As a University for everyone, it won’t take you long to find your place. We’re proud of nurturing a community where people feel safe to be themselves. An environment that celebrates diversity, inclusivity and equality. Where you can be you.

What's it like to live in North West?
Check out our region guide

The North West is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Its two biggest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, are global landmarks in music and football history.

The region was the heart of the industrial revolution – at one time, Lancashire produced half the world’s cotton. Many architectural reminders of this era remain, like Liverpool’s Royal Albert Docks and Chester's Victorian centre.

The stunning Lake District – home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike – needs no filters, while Blackpool is a seaside adventure.

Campus and facilities

Look around our 160-acre campus and you’ll soon see why it’s award-winning. We’ve invested more than £350m over the last decade to create a space that’s not just a great place to live, study and socialise but is inspiring to be around.

With everything in one place, you’ll never be far from where you need to be. Having over 2,000 halls of residence rooms on campus means you can walk to your lectures, the library, the Sports Centre, the SU, our cafes, beach and social spaces, or access support services within minutes. And when you do need to leave campus, Ormskirk town centre is just a 10-minute walk away, or free shuttle bus journey. Our central North West location means major cities and natural beauty spots can be found on your doorstep too.

So if you’re moving away from home for the first time, there’s no better place to be. Feel independent but safe living at the heart of our stunning campus with rooms to fit every need and budget, guaranteed to first-year undergraduates.
