Course summary

This accredited five-year masters level course covers essential topics, combined with optional modules to specialise and focus your learning to your strengths and interests. With the support of our industrial placements team you will undertake a year in industry as part of the course with regular visits from your course tutor whilst on your placement. Our links with companies such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Jaguar Land Rover also guarantee our teaching is relevant and meaningful, while our well-structured course will help you develop your potential and become a professional manufacturing engineer.

Modules

In the first year, you are provided with a firm foundation in engineering design, materials, basic manufacturing processes, engineering science and engineering maths.

The second year builds on this with core modules in design for manufacture, dynamics, statistics and more.

In year three further optional modules are available to help tailor your degree to your specific interests and career aspirations as well as a group design project.

In your fourth year you will undertake an industrial placement with support from your tutor as well as the industrial placements team at the university.

During your final year you will take an individual project as well as choosing from a list of advanced manufacturing, business and management modules.

Maths and either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a 2nd subject, or Maths with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Economics, Psychology, Electronics, Computer Science. For applicants predicted A*AA including A in maths but not offering the subject combinations above - A*AA including Maths and at least one of Chemistry, Biology, Electronics or Design Excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma is not accepted for this course. Applicants should apply for the relevant BEng course.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 36 points

Extended Project A

If you have already achieved your EPQ at grade A you will automatically be offered one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject. If you are still studying for your EPQ you will receive the standard course offer, and an alternative offer, with a condition of one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject if you achieve an A grade in your EPQ. If you qualify for a contextual offer, your EPQ will be taken into consideration and the appropriate adjustment will be made to your offer. Please note that if you qualify for an enhanced contextual offer, your EPQ will not be taken into consideration as we are unable to make any further adjustments to your offer.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal D3, D3, M1

GCSE requirements for all applicants - English grade C/4 or equivalent

AQA Certificate in Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) A

If you have already achieved your Core Maths Qualification at grade A you will automatically be offered one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject. If you are still studying for your Core Maths Qualification you will receive the standard course offer, and also an alternate offer with a condition of one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject if you achieve an A grade in your Core Maths Qualification. T Level

A level mathematics also required. For applicants with T Level qualifications without A level mathematics the Foundation Year (H100) is recommended.

European Baccalaureate - 85% overall including 8.5 in Mathematics 5 and 8.5 in either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a second subject, or Mathematics with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Economics, Psychology, Electronics, Computer Science.
