A foundation year helps you develop the study skills and self-confidence needed for higher education when you don’t reach the entry requirements for your subject.
Develop your creative voice by learning how to take inspiring photographs.
You'll be taught by a team of experienced professional photographers who will support you on this dynamic and friendly course.
Using industry-standard darkrooms and studios you’ll be encouraged to explore many areas of photographic process; from analogue portraiture to studio still life, experimental processes to high quality commercial image making.
Our degree will open your eyes to different aspects of photography and help you understand images from a fresh perspective. From developing practical photographic skills to exploring visual research, this specialist course will enable you to understand and appreciate photography as a means of communication and creative expression.
Staff are on hand to nurture your development as a practitioner whilst offering exciting opportunities to exhibit your work and gain real world insight from our roster of guest speakers.

Location
This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.

Home (UK) Fees
Home (UK) tuition fees for Foundation Years at Canterbury Christ Church University will be set in line with the maximum tuition fee cap for foundation years in classroom-based subjects or non-classroom-based subjects, as set by the UK Government.
Home (UK) tuition fees for subsequent years 1-3 are currently set in line with the maximum tuition fee cap for standard undergraduate degrees set by the UK Government.
The Government has announced that it will increase the tuition fee cap by 3.1%, in line with inflation, for the 2025/26 academic cycle. Subject to parliamentary approval, the University intends to increase our tuition fees in line with this and as per our terms and conditions. This means that from September 2025 onwards, our undergraduate home tuition fees for subsequent years of study are expected to be £9,535.
International Tuition Fees (including EU fees
Undergraduate tuition fees for International students are not subject to the Government’s regulations on maximum tuition fees.
