Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence – with extensive support from our expert staff – before you advance to stage one of your honours degree. It could also be beneficial if you are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects which are new to you.
Our Education Studies degree opens doors to a wide range of careers, this course explores the role of education in society and examines how moral and social issues shape learning.

Consider different aspects of education in a range of settings, within and outside school and gain valuable practical experience on work placements which will strengthen your CV.
IS THIS COURSE FOR YOU?
You will benefit from a strong focus on social equality, international learning opportunities and the chance to take a specialist pathway in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
HOW YOU WILL LEARN
You will be taught using a variety of methods from directed study, lectures, seminars, and tutorials. If you choose not to follow a pathway you will still be undertaking a 12-day work placement in an education setting.
OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCES
This course has an international focus so we offer exciting opportunities for you to travel abroad. Our programme of international fieldtrips has given our students first-hand experience of education in countries such as Morocco, The Gambia and Poland.

Our graduates are now enjoying success as higher level teaching assistants, welfare child protection officers, early years practitioners, care assistants, and community learning facilitators.

Your offer will typically be based on your predicted and/or achieved grades from full level 3 qualifications or above e.g. A levels, BTEC Ext Diploma, Access to HE, etc. Any subject specifics are outlined below in the Further Information section, and these specifics are applicable across all equivalent qualifications. A strong application/performance and appropriate experience will be taken into account where typical criteria is not met.
GCSE Maths and English are preferred, however if you don't have these qualifications you will be able to undertake Maths and English at L2 as part of your course of study.

We may operate some flexibility with entry grades to support widening participation, though most of the students that enrol on this course achieve the published entry tariff or above. Applicants who achieve grades below the published tariff may be offered an alternative course or a 4-year route if there is one available.
