Course summary

This programme includes a Year Abroad. The Year Abroad will allow you to study at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and discipline-related modules.

Physics and Mathematics degrees are highly prized and our graduates have excellent career opportunities in industrial research and development, computing, business, finance and teaching.
We offer one three-year BSc degree and two four-year degrees, MMath or MPhys, combining these two intimately related disciplines. These programmes provide a strong mathematical training, and mathematical techniques help you to deal with new ideas that often seem counterintuitive, such as string theory, black holes, superconductors and chaos theory.

This programme is accredited by the Institute of Physics (IOP) for the purpose of fully meeting the educational requirement for Chartered Physicist.

This programme is also accredited to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.

Mathematics A level at grade A and Physics A level at grade B. Applicants must have studied Mathematics at Level 3 within 2 years of the start date of their course. For applicants from England: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology or Physics), a pass in the science practical of each subject will be required.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB or BBB plus A in the EPQ, including grade A in Mathematics and grade B in Physics.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H2, H2, H2, H3, H3

Including H1 in Mathematics and H2 in Physics.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Tuition fees for Home undergraduates
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2024, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

For UK students applying for 2024 entry the Tuition Fees are £9,250.
