In choosing to study the joint honours degree in Mathematics/Film and Television at Aberystwyth University you will immerse yourself in two rigorous and challenging disciplines, taught by lecturers and researchers at the forefront of their fields.
Mathematics is fundamentally important to modern society, contributing to numerous facets of life, including science, engineering, technology and finance. Mathematics has been taught at Aberystwyth since the foundation of the university in 1872, making it the oldest Mathematics department in Wales. In your Mathematics modules, you will start by studying core modules in algebra, calculus and mathematical analysis, with optional modules in areas such as probability, statistics, and differential equations. As you progress, you will be able to choose from a wide range of mathematics and statistics modules to suit your own interests.
Film and Television combines practical, historical and theoretical approaches to the technique and examination of film and television productions, institutions and cultures. The Department is one of the largest and most highly regarded in Britain in terms of staff reputation and the quality of the student experience. We can offer you an unrivalled range of student choice, staff expertise, and state-of-the-art facilities for practical work, including a fully equipped television studio, industry standard HD and digital cameras, editing suites, viewing areas and practical workspaces, so that you can utilise your creative skills to the full.
Mathematics graduates are in significant demand across many industries for their problem-solving abilities, clear analytical thought processes and capacity for logical argument, whilst the intellectual, practical and transferable skills acquired from your Film and Television studies will prepare you for a variety of careers in the creative arts and beyond.
