Course summary

The Higher National Diploma Top-Up in Business expands on students’ previous learning at Level 4 and allows them to grow their understanding and knowledge of the major elements of business. Through engaging projects, case studies and practical assignments, students will encounter real-world business situations and gain invaluable skills and knowledge for their careers.

The course can be studied over one-year full-time or over two-years part time. The course prepares students for further study or graduate roles in a range of related areas, such as management, administration, personnel, marketing, accounting and law.

Assessment method

The programme is assessed through the submission of written essays, reports and reflective logs and a series of project-based practical work-based assessments.

Formative feedback will support student progression in both written work and business outcomes.

Self and peer assessment in convener/critique situations will be an essential element of all projects and the feedback from these will enhance student achievement and progression.

The programme allows 120 credits at each level.

To apply for this programme, applicants will be required to hold a Higher National Certificate or equivalent level 4 certificate of higher education in a relevant subject.

It is expected that all applicants will hold relevant Level 2 maths and English qualifications equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 or above.
Mature students: The University Centre welcomes applications from mature students who have relevant experience in lieu of the minimum entry requirements. Mature students (over 21) without formal qualifications may be accepted subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement.

Recognition of Prior Learning: Applicants may meet entry requirements through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which awards academic credits through recognition of prior learning via work and other life experiences. Recognition of Prior Learning is either certificated (RPCL) through formal assessment, or Experiential (RPEL) via skills and knowledge developed through work and voluntary activities.
