Become a specialised mental health nurse with an MSc in Mental Health Nursing. Suitable for all students from any academic background, this Mental Health Nursing degree will equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a competent and compassionate nurse. On successful completion, you will be eligible to register with the NMC and practise as a registered Mental Health Nurse.
Taking a person-centred approach, this degree in Mental Health Nursing will prepare you be a critically aware, creative, and communicative nursing practitioner. The practical and dynamic nature of the course will allow you to build your confidence both in the community and the classroom.
This two year course focuses on both theory and practice, allowing you to practise what you have learned at University. You will complete various placements, working directly with people in a range of settings, including their home and community. Through this opportunity, you’ll gain a full understanding of how to care for different people as you implement a person-centred and informed approach.
Professional accreditation
On completion of the course, you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse. Our newly approved course meets the NMC 2023 standards.
Specialist facilities
As a healthcare student, you will have access to our specialist, industry-relevant, simulation facilities. These simulation suites allow you to practise hands-on skills in a fully-equipped, realistic hospital environment.

Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. For the MSc Nursing you will hold a Bachelor's degree with Honours at a 2:1 in any subject or a 2:2 in a health related subject, such as Biological Sciences, Psychology or Public Health.
You must also hold maths and English GCSE grade 4-9 (A-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
