Course summary

This course can be studied full-time over 1 year, achieving a Higher National Certificate in Sport and Exercise Science qualification, or over 2 years, achieving a Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science qualification.

This course is designed to provide a platform for anyone wishing to enter the varied and exciting field of sports and exercise science. The course aims to introduce students to the theory and practical application of sports and exercise science in various environments and is designed to assist students into a wide range of careers, but with a particular focus on sports rehabilitation and massage, fitness development and healthy lifestyle development.

Studying will take place in a range of settings with modules being taught not just in the classroom, but also in our fitness gym, sports hall or massage suite. In addition to traditional studying methods, students will also be encouraged to use personal study time with online materials to help enhance understanding and learning throughout the course. Other opportunities available for those on this course could include additional qualifications, such as sport massage therapy, fitness instructor or taping and strapping, to boost employment potential. Anyone interested in doing this additional study should discuss this at application/interview and be aware of the additional demands/costs that would apply.

We offer smaller class sizes enabling supportive quality teaching and allows both one to one tuition and group work. This course has a competitive fee structure with flexible entry requirements based on your experience.

Assessment method

Each assessment is designed in the context of realistic situations of the workplace and higher education. You may be asked to complete a variety of assessment from the following methods:

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - 32 points

A level - C

If you are taking 2 or more A Levels you can achieve the entry requirement of 32 UCAS tariff points across all of the A Level subjects you are taking.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - PPP

Access to HE Diploma - P: 45 credits

You are required to achieve 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 credits at Level 2, totalling 60 credits.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - PP

Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) - PPP

Pearson BTEC Diploma (QCF) - PP

You are required to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above to include English, Maths and Science. We will accept Level 2 equivalences for English and Maths in place of GCSEs. A Level 2 Maths and GCSE Science qualification are desirable but not essential.

We encourage applications from students who do not meet the entry requirements outlined but can demonstrate ability through work experience, portfolio of evidence or successful interview.

Interview
You will be required to attend an interview at the College's Sutton Coldfield site prior to an offer being made to you. If you would find it difficult to attend the College for an interview we may be able to arrange for this to take place via Skype.
Institutions Own Test (IOT)
If you do not hold a Level 2 English and/or Maths qualification you maybe required to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain your current literacy and/or numeracy levels and/or a free writing assessment.

English language requirements

Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum standard of English at IELTS Level 5.5 with no element below 5.0.
