Course summary

This course equips you with advanced knowledge and practical skills for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries from sport and physical activity. You'll study musculoskeletal injuries, therapeutic techniques, and exercise rehabilitation skills, underpinned by a foundation in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and psychology.

Through clinical placements, supervised by registered healthcare or medical professionals, you'll gain hands-on experience in providing effective care for injuries, illness, and disease, either independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Accredited by the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT), this programme prepares you for BASRaT membership, offering valuable industry insights. Additionally, we offer exchange programmes, including two semester-long options in the USA, where you can undertake a similar study programme and a professional baseball internship. Please note that these exchanges are subject to availability and may not be available to all students.

Modules

• Year one: Foundation Human Form and Function, Foundation Therapy Skills, Foundation Exercise and Conditioning, Applied Human Form and Function, Intermediate Therapy Skills, and Applied Exercise and Conditioning.

• Year two: Professional Practice 1, Applied Therapy and Rehabilitation Skills, Advanced Exercise and Conditioning, and Evidence-based Practice in Sport Rehabilitation.

• Year three: Professional Practice 2, Advanced Therapy Skills, and Applied Research in Sport Rehabilitation.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include exams on theory, exams on practical work and clinical assessments, essays, projects, and presentations.

120 - 128 points from 3 A Levels with a Grade B in at least one of the following subjects required: Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Mathematics, Sport Science, PE, Dance. However applicants without one of these subjects may be considered on a case by case basis with suitable relevant experience. GCE A Level General Studies is not accepted.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Science/ Applied Science preferred, however applicants with relevant Sport/ Health subjects will be considered on a case by case basis.

Access to HE Diploma

D: 45 credits M: 0 credits P: 0 credits
60 credits required in total, including 45 credits at level 3 at Distinction grade. The other 15 credits will be level 2 and will not be graded. Access to HE Diploma must be Science based, however applicants with relevant Sport/ Health subjects may be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants must also hold full separate GCSE Maths & English at grade C or 4 (or above).

Applicants must hold English Language and Mathematics as composite parts of the IBDP to satisfy the GCSE requirements of the programme.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

120 - 128 UCAS points required, points from H1-H3 (A/C) grades considered only. H4 (D) grade and below will not contribute towards tariff requirement. Must include English, Mathematics and a Science at Higher H6 grade or above (D3 grade in old system) or Ordinary O4 grade or above (C2 grade in old system). T-Level Science

Five GCSEs at grade C or 4 (or above) required. Must include English Language, Mathematics and a Science. UK Equivalencies (such as Key Skills/ Functional Skills level 2 Numeracy/ Literacy) are accepted. Applicants with non UK qualifications will need to meet the minimum GCSE requirements with a satisfactory GCSE equivalent qualification.
