Course summary

The Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in Leadership and Management, Level 5 is designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in leadership, strategic management, and business operations. This course is ideal for aspiring managers, team leaders, and those looking to enhance their career prospects in various organisational settings.

The Level 5 units gives you the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and behaviours aligned to the Occupational Standard (OS) for Operations or Departmental Manager. The units will prepare you to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making, and support students to aspire to future management roles.

The units also prepare you to progress to Level 6 higher education study, including higher apprenticeships and professional body qualifications; and top up degree programmes. You will be able to develop and apply your own ideas to your studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of business situations.

By the end of Level 5, you will have a sound understanding of the principles of leadership and management and you will know how to apply those principles more widely in the business world.

Progression Opportunities - You can progress to a top-up degree which is likely to be in Leadership and Management, Business Management, Business and Human Resource Management; Global Management or Digital Business Management.

Example career roles are Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and Specialist Managers. Although this list is not exhaustive.

The BTEC Level 5 HTQ in Leadership and Management (HND level) has been designed to align to the Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship and Occupational Standard (OS) for Operations or Departmental Manager, as defined by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) (https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/occupational-standards). The knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required to meet specific OSs are embedded in both the Level 4 and Level 5 units.
