Course summary
Mathematics and Physics are natural subjects to combine in a degree programme. At York the Mathematics and Physics MMath/MPhys degree includes a good all-round coverage of physics, with an even greater emphasis on the study of fundamental mathematics than the Theoretical Physics degree programme. It emphasises the mathematical structure of physical theory.
Accreditation - This course is accredited by the Institute of Physics (iop.org) and Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (ima.org.uk).

Essential Subjects:
Physics and Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade A are essential.
Information: Applicants taking Science A Levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD
We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.
A Levels in Physics and Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A are essential. We may also consider relevant units in your BTEC as a A Level Physics and Mathematics equivalent.
Access to HE Diploma - D: 39 credits M: 6 credits
Pass Access to HE Diploma with 39 credits at Distinction, including Physics and Mathematics related units, and 6 credits at Merit or higher.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points
With 6 in Higher Level Physics and Mathematics.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A
We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.
Extended Project
We recognise the value of this qualification although it will not be included as a condition of entry. It may be taken in to consideration when you receive your results.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, D3
Cambridge Pre-U Physics and Mathematics at grade D3 are essential.
OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - DDD
We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.
A Levels in Physics and Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A are essential. We may also consider relevant units in your OCR Cambridge Technical as A Level Physics and Mathematics equivalent.
