Our Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science BSc with a year in industry will equip you with the skills to solve real-world problems whilst also offering you the chance to gain valuable industry experience which, in an ever-increasingly competitive graduate job market, will set you apart from the rest.

At the University of Birmingham our research expertise allows us to offer an unusually rich and innovative programme for undergraduate study which enables our students to leave us ready for a career path in industry or research. 100% of our students said that staff were good at explaining things and that they found the course intellectually stimulating (NSS, 2019). You will take part in an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-related team project in your second year where you will work in a team on a substantial AI-themed project that will require you to combine the design and implementation of state of the art AI algorithms with software engineering best practices.

Our four-year Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science BSc degree is structured to give you a thorough understanding of the field of computer science whilst providing you with the opportunity to develop a strong theoretical grounding in Artificial Intelligence with many opportunities to put this in to practice during the course and your industrial placement.

We know how competitive the graduate job market can be, that’s why you also learn computer programming in Java – a language widely used in business and industry that will ensure you stand out in future applications. During your time with us you will take part in group work which will allow you to develop key skills essential for both a career in industry and research.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - A*AA

A level Mathematics grade A required. If you are taking any reformed science A levels, which include Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught from 2015, you must pass the practical element. General Studies or Critical Thinking not accepted.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

D*D* plus A-level Maths at grade A*. BTEC Extended Diploma/Diploma qualifications will only be considered if accompanied by A level Mathematics.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

7, 6, 6 required at Higher Level (including 6 in Mathematics), with a minimum of 32 points overall. We also require 5 in Standard Level English.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
