Overview
As the demand for clean energy grows, so does the demand for energy engineering graduates. This course equips you with the skills, knowledge, and industrial connections you’ll need to tackle global energy challenges and shape the future of our society.

East Anglia is a significant region for energy engineering, and you’ll see the benefits of our connections with local industry from the very start of your four-year course. You’ll have access to an array of career pathways, alongside the option of further study. You can also choose to undertake a year in industry to boost your commercial awareness and graduate with first-hand industry experience.

You’ll study an integrated programme for the first year, providing a broad insight into the incredible potential of engineering. From year two, you’ll specialise in energy engineering, building theoretical knowledge and practical skills. You can also enrich your learning experience with optional modules in the Schools of Environmental Sciences or Computing Sciences, to become a truly interdisciplinary engineer. You’ll spend your third year studying abroad with one of our partner universities, developing lifelong skills like self-management, confidence, and intellectual flexibility. You’ll complete your studies at UEA with an individual project on a topic of your choice.

From the beginning of your course, you’ll have access to industry-standard facilities in Productivity East, including computer aided design (CAD) stations, 3D printers, subtractive manufacturing technology, and several collaborative robots. You’ll also be able to demonstrate your abilities to industry professionals through frequent events like our annual Select Partnership Scheme.

Studying energy engineering at UEA means you’ll graduate with a wide range of theoretical knowledge, practical experience and employability skills. As you transition into your career, you’ll be supported by our award-winning careers service for up to three years after graduation.

Modules

Year 1 is made up of compulsory modules that will provide you with a solid grounding in engineering. These modules include Engineering Studies, Engineering Principles and Law and Mathematics for Scientists. In your second and third year, you will have a combination of compulsory modules - such as Analogue and Digital Electronics - and optional modules such as Vibration and Dynamics or Meteorology and Global Environmental Change. You will also complete an individual research project in your final year which you can tailor to your own interests.

Where applicable Science A Levels awarded by an English Exam board require a pass in the practical element. Critical Thinking & General Studies are not accepted.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM

Modules to include either Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Further Mathematics OR Maths for Engineering Technicians and Further Maths for Engineering Technicians. A Distinction will be required in both modules OR A Level Mathematics at grade A will be required.Where applicable Science A Levels awarded by an English Exam board require a pass in the practical element. Scottish Advanced Higher - BCC

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

Including HL6 in Mathematics and HL5 in Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Design Technology or Computing Science.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

T Level

Obtain an overall Pass including a B in the core of the T-Level and a Distinction in the Occupational Specialism. Accepted subjects are: Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing / Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control / Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing.

GCSE Requirements: GCSE English Language grade 4 or C and GCSE Mathematics grade 5 or B.

Additional fee information

Tuition fees increase annually for all students in subsequent years of study. Any fee increase is based on the fee for the year that you register. Home undergraduate fees, whose rates are regulated by the UK Government, will be amended in line with any alteration advised by the UK Government. Fees not regulated by the UK Government will increase by a maximum of 4% or RPI-X whichever is the higher. RPI-X is the Retail Prices Index excluding mortgage interest.
