This course places you in a vibrant creative community, collaborating with musicians, filmmakers, animators, and designers. We welcome aspiring engineers, recordists, and beatmakers eager to grow into accomplished music production professionals and creative artists. Here, music production meets innovation and collaboration. Working closely with our BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance, this course sharpens your expertise in studio production, composition, sound design, and live sound—foundations for a successful musical career.
This course immerses you in recording, mixing, mastering, and creating music for diverse media, from video games to film sync. Purpose-built facilities mirror real-world industry environments, offering state-of-the-art resources such as a performance auditorium, cutting-edge recording studios, a 24-hour rehearsal room, and soundproofed live rooms—everything needed to bring your vision to life. You’ll also have access to industry-standard software and hardware, ensuring you graduate with the tools and skills that reflect current professional practices.
Guided by expert lecturers, you’ll master technical skills and gain creative insights for success as a music producer. Through hands-on projects, hyper-real simulations, live pitching opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaborations, you’ll gain invaluable real-world experience. In our supportive and intimate environment, you’ll be encouraged to showcase your talents, experiment, and push creative boundaries, preparing for success in the ever-evolving world of music production.
Workshops and guest speakers have included Skin OBE, Jason Bowld (Bullet for My Valentine), Imogen Heap, West End performers, composers, agents, publishers, and industry experts across labels, management, and promotion.
Year one – In your first year, you’ll explore music production, studio production, composition, sound design, and live sound. Through workshops and real-world projects, you’ll create original music, collaborate in the studio, and understand the broader context of music production in popular culture, setting the stage for success in the dynamic creative industries.
Year two – You’ll deepen your expertise in studio production, composition, sound design, and live sound. Through real-world briefs, you’ll build a diverse portfolio while exploring electronic composition, AI skills, artist branding, rights management, and networking. You’ll also examine music production’s cultural and historical context, broadening your industry understanding.
Year three – In your final year, you’ll lead a music production project showcasing your unique style and professional identity. You’ll refine audience engagement, analytical, and problem-solving skills, preparing to monetise your work. By graduation, you’ll be ready to navigate complex, fast-paced environments and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of creatives.

If you are successful in your application an offer will be made to you, if conditional we will ask for between 104 and 120 UCAS tariff points from any combination of A Levels/T Level/Extended Diploma/Foundation Diploma. The expected subjects will depend on the course you are applying for.
All applicants must have GCSE English Language or Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass.

Ability will be assessed through a sample of current production performance, that has been uploaded to a suitable sharing platform (YouTube, Google Drive, MS One Drive or Weibo) for review. You’ll need to have passed GCSE English Language or English Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass. For mature students, an Access to Higher Education qualification in art and design will also be acceptable to demonstrate English language ability.
Currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design?
If you are currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, you will have already achieved level 3 qualifications which carry UCAS tariff points. When considering your application, we will, collate your achieved tariff points with those you are predicted. You will also need a GCSE grade 4/ Grade C or above in English Language or English Literature or equivalent, or Functional Skills level 2 at a pass.
