Financial Computing with a Year in Industry

Course summary

Financial Computing is at the very heart of the world’s global financial centres, from Wall Street to Chicago, London and Tokyo. Taught in conjunction with the Management School and bringing together finance, economics and computing, this dynamic programme will develop your knowledge and skills in aspects of financial services from understanding and creating algorithms; financial accounting; designing, implementing and evaluating software systems to analysing stock portfolios and operating financial markets.

On G3N4 you spend a year on industrial placement acquiring experience and awareness of practical business and industrial environments.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAA

A level Mathematics or Computer Science is required. For applicants from England: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology or Physics), a pass in the Science practical of each subject will be required.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D*D*

D*D*D* plus A level Mathematics or Computer Science. GCSE Mathematics grade 7 /A or above required where A Level Mathematics has not been taken.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 45 credits

Considered if taking a relevant subject. 45 Level 3 credits at Distinction, including 15 Level 3 credits in Mathematical or Computer Science subjects is required. GCSE English and Mathematics grade C/grade 4 or above also required.

Scottish Higher - Not accepted

Scottish Advanced Higher - AAA

Advanced Higher Mathematics or Computer Science is required.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

36 overall including 5 in Higher Level Mathematics or Computer Science.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A

Acceptable at grade A alongside AA at A level including Mathematics or Computer Science.

Extended Project - A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAA or AAB plus A in the EPQ.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H2

including H1 in Mathematics or Computer Science. We also require a minimum of H6 in Higher English or O3 in Ordinary English.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Tuition fees for Home undergraduates
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2024, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

For UK students applying for 2024 entry the Tuition Fees are £9,250.

• Foundation programmes: the fee for the foundation year of specified programmes at Carmel College

• Programmes with a year in industry or a year abroad:
Some programmes which include compulsory fieldwork or additional elements such as the Pilots Licence in Aerospace Engineering may incur additional costs. Where this is the case, those costs will be outlined at on-campus events such as the University Open Days or Post Application Visit Days
