Course summary

Our MSc in Computer Science aims to provide an intensive, professionally-oriented introduction to computing for able graduates in other disciplines, especially the humanities, to enable them to enter the software industry. No previous experience of computing is required.

Topics you may study on this course include computer programming, data management and intelligent systems. Recent MSc project topics include: machine learning for the internet of things, augmented reality applications for tourism, analysis and management of agricultural emissions data, network intrusion detection and supply chain management.

Advanced Software Engineering

Focuses on current issues in the field of Software Engineering with significant emphasis is placed on student discussion and peer review.

Agile Software Development Project

Will give you a strong foundation in agile software engineering that will inform their software development practice and prepare them to work in the software industry.

Fundamentals of Intelligent Systems

Introduces the key ideas in Artificial Intelligence and ensures all students are at roughly the same level before moving on to the specialist modules.

Assessment method

The taught part of the course is delivered and assessed through lectures, student seminars, practical exercises, case studies, course work and formal examinations. The subsequent successful submission of your research dissertation leads to the award of an MSc.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this MSc is a second class honours in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related subject. This should include programming in a language like Java, C or C++. Sometimes it may be possible to substitute industrial experience (supplemented by preliminary study) for these academic qualifications.
English Language Requirements: If you have a Bachelor’s degree from a UK University, you do not need to take an English proficiency test. Non-native English speakers who do not meet this requirement must take a University-recognised test of academic English language proficiency.

IELTS:6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each component TOEFL:88 with minimum component scores: Listening 17, Writing 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20. Pearson PTE: 55 with minimum scores of 51 in each component
