Course summary

This degree is jointly delivered by the Department of Law and Criminology and the Department of Psychology. It is accredited by the British Psychological Society so that graduates have the opportunity to gain Graduate and/or Chartered Membership of the Society. Studying Criminology and Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London means that you will gain an understanding of crime, criminality, and the criminal justice system alongside the biological, social, clinical and cognitive factors that influence behaviour. You will learn from internationally renowned experts who will share their research and experience so that you gain current, relevant and transferable skills and knowledge which are highly sought after by employers.

The degree develops students' understanding of psychological problems and interventions, how social and cognitive factors influence behaviour, and how behaviour can be modified. It also examines the underpinnings of criminal behaviour (including violent crime, terrorism, race and hate crime), and how society reacts to, controls, and is affected by crime and deviance. By electing to spend a year in industry you will also have ample opportunities to integrate theory and practice and gain real world experience.

Where an applicant is taking the EPQ alongside A-levels, the EPQ will be taken into consideration and result in lower A-level grades being required. Socio-economics factors which may have impacted an applicant's education will be taken into consideration and alternative offers may be made to these applicants. General Studies and Critical thinking A-levels are not accepted

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD

In Health and Social Care or Applied Science (Forensic Science).

Access to HE Diploma - D: 27 credits M: 18 credits

Pass in a relevant subject with at least 30 level 3 credits at Distinction and the remaining level 3 credits at Merit. Please note that the Access to Higher Education Diploma will only be acceptable if the applicant has had a considerable break from education

Requirements are as for A-levels where one non-subject-specified A-level can be replaced by the same grade in the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Certificate.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

Applicants with the Cambridge Pre-U are strongly encouraged to apply to Royal Holloway. ers will be made on the basis of equivalent A-Level grades as can be found on the Royal Holloway website.

We require at least five GCSEs at grade A*-C or 9 - 4 including English and Mathematics.
