Course summary

Computer Science is a broad area which includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes and processing, structuring and managing various kinds of information. Covering all aspects of computer science, including the underlying principles and theory, this programme will ensure that when you graduate you will know what is and isn’t possible with computers and be able to find solutions to the problems you will encounter in your professional life.
Studying Computer Science MEng (G401), you will not only develop a good ‘all-round’ understanding of the academic discipline of Computer Science, you will also go on to develop a much deeper and systematic specialisation in topics at the forefront of current research. This integrated master’s programme offers the same specialism pathways as G400.

You can choose to maintain a mixture of modules throughout your degree or follow a specialist’s pathway in Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms and Optimisation or Data Science.

This programme is accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.

A level AAA

A level Mathematics or Computer Science is required.

For applicants studying A levels with English exam boards: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology, Geology or Physics), a pass in the Science practical of each subject will be required.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) D*D*D*

DDD* plus A level Mathematics or Computer Science.

GCSE Mathematics grade 7 /A or above required where A Level Mathematics has not been taken.

Access to HE Diploma D: 39 credits M: 6 credits

Pass Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject with 45 Level 3 credits, with 39 at Distinction (including 15 in Mathematical or Computer Science credits) and 6 at Merit.

Scottish Higher Not accepted

Scottish Advanced Higher AAA

Advanced Higher Mathematics or Computer Science is required.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 36 points

36 points overall with no score less than 4 and including 6 in Higher Level Mathematics or Computer Science, or pass the IB Diploma with 6,6,6 in three Higher Level subjects (including Higher Level Mathematics or Computer Science).

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales A

A in the Welsh Baccalaureate, plus AA at A level (including Mathematics or Computer Science).

Extended Project A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAA or AAB plus A in the EPQ.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H2

including H1 in Mathematics or Computer Science.

We also require a minimum of H6 in Higher English or O3 in Ordinary English.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Tuition fees for Home undergraduates
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2024, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

For UK students applying for 2024 entry the Tuition Fees are £9,250.
