Advanced Medical Imaging (Taught)

This College of Radiographers-accredited programme is for qualified medical imaging practitioners aiming to achieve specialist, advanced, and consultant practitioner status in a rapidly evolving health service.

Your module choices depend on your clinical background, prior education, experience, and career goals. Our flexible programme allows you to either study individual modules or work towards a qualification. Contact the programme lead to find the most suitable modules for your development.

After completing 120 postgraduate credits, you can proceed to the dissertation module.

Modules
Our modules focus on developing problem-solving skills and critical awareness of your practice. You will be supported in implementing evidence-based practice and gaining comprehensive knowledge in your specialist field.

For your first reporting qualification, you need to complete at least a postgraduate certificate. The programme also encourages development across the four pillars of advanced practice, assisting with your application for advanced practitioner accreditation.

Award outcomes/qualifications:

• Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert): 60 credits

• Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip): 120 credits

• Master's Degree (MSc): 180 credits, including the dissertation module

What will you be doing?
Teaching: The programme uses diverse teaching strategies, delivered by clinical and academic experts, many of whom are Advanced and Consultant Practitioners. You will also have access to a personal tutor to help you achieve your learning outcomes.

Assessment: You must complete clinical experience to meet learning outcomes and prepare for competence assessment. This is guided by evidence, professional guidelines, and external benchmarks.

Part-time students can study up to 60 credits per semester. Both the University and your workplace will provide guidance and support.

What about after university?
Graduates often return to the NHS with advanced practitioner status and may progress to Consultant Practitioner roles. You will also receive support for applying for Advanced Practitioner Accreditation with the College of Radiographers.
