Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems

Course summary

Prepare for a career as a leader in engineering future groundbreaking music technology or audio engineering.

With access to the latest computer design labs, multi-speaker surround sound systems, multimedia studios and an anechoic chamber you’ll be able to explore synthesiser technology, MIDI, audio recording, sampling and digital audio signal processing. You’ll not just learn how this technology is applied in making and recording music, but also use your engineering expertise to design and build the next generation of audio technology. The MEng is a fully accredited engineering course which combines professional electronics with audio and music technology. This course will consolidate your knowledge of fundamental principles and introduce you to more advanced concepts. You'll experience a large team software engineering multimedia project, as well as managing a substantial individual project, allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills required to become a leader in the industry. With an increased choice of advanced option modules, you'll have the opportunity to work with our latest innovative technology and engage with world-class researchers from the AudioLab. Please note that this course is identical to our MEng Music Technology Systems. You can choose which title you graduate with, based on your own career interests. All of our courses are available with a year in industry, which gives you the opportunity to gain vital experience in the workplace and find out more about your career options. The year in industry is generally taken in the year prior to your final year of study. The School will help you to find a suitable placement. You will be fully supported by an academic member of staff who will visit you in the workplace and meet you regularly to discuss your placement work.

A level - AAA

Essential Subjects: Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade A is essential.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD

We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 39 credits M: 6 credits

Pass Access to HE Diploma with 39 credits at Distinction and 6 at Merit or higher including at least 12 in Mathematics-related units.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

With 6 in Higher Level Mathematics - Applications and Interpretation or 6 in Higher Level or Standard Level Mathematics - Analysis and Approaches.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

Extended Project - C

If you achieve C or higher at EPQ, you may be eligible for an alternative offer up to one A Level grade (or equivalent) below our typical offer.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, D3

Cambridge Pre-U Mathematics at grade D3 is essential.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - DDD

We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential.

T Level

We consider a range of T Level qualifications, in combination with an A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification). Please contact us to discuss your qualifications.
