Course summary

Explore the language, culture, politics and history of France and the francophone world and become a near-native speaker with our 3-year degree largely taught and assessed in French, while studying in Paris. Gain a prestigious qualification, benefiting from small class sizes and wide-ranging modules.

KEY FEATURES

  • Immerse yourself in local arts and culture and broaden your perspectives in a leading student destination (ranked eighth in QS Best Student Cities 2023) with a campus overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Your international experience will help you gain a competitive edge as a graduate.

  • Practice your French every day on and off campus with a degree based in France for the full three years of your studies and taught and assessed predominantly in the language. Stand out from the crowd with advanced proficiency across reading, writing, listening and speaking.

  • Customise your degree and study topics that are relevant and matter to you. We offer a range of optional modules in areas such as French cinema, climate and environmental politics, gender studies, queer politics and more, all taught by experts in their fields. Some optional modules are taught in French.

  • Realise your potential with intensive small-group teaching in a tightknit interdisciplinary environment.

Modules

You complete 10 compulsory modules and 11 elective modules.

The BA in French Studies is delivered in three stages, each of which comprises one year of full-time study during which you will follow courses to the value of four units (one unit is equivalent to 30 national credits or 15 European credits). The programme provides progressive structures enabling you to develop increasingly specialised knowledge and understanding of key themes alongside core transferable skills.

Assessment method

We offer regular field trips and encourage our students to do fieldwork, so you can get the most out of the city and your study experience, giving you a competitive edge once you graduate.

Students can choose their area of interest and carry out research projects.

Methods of assessment include a variety of types of coursework, in-class presentations and research projects to name a few.
