Religion, Philosophy and Ethics (R45)

In this qualification you’ll explore human systems of thought and practice, both ‘secular’ and ‘religious’, in ways that allow you to engage with wide-ranging and often controversial issues affecting different cultures and societies across Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. You’ll investigate current questions and themes in these disciplines from both historical and contemporary perspectives. This includes the ethics of war, political justice, multiculturalism, racism, religious nationalisms, the ‘sanctity of life’ and pilgrimage. In engaging with the core disciplines of religious studies and philosophy, you’ll develop critical skills and expertise in a range of key approaches and methodologies.

This degree has three stages.
You’ll start Stage 1 with an introduction to the arts and humanities and the history relating to the revolutions that changed the world.
Next, in Stage 2, you'll study two compulsory modules as you begin to explore philosophy and religion in more detail.
Finally, in Stage 3, you’ll complete your degree study focusing on the key questions in philosophy and religion.
