About the course
Pursue your interests in theatre, performance and literature.
Our Drama and English BA gives you the chance to explore theatre through a distinctive combination of practice and theory, developing your skills in performance-making and analysis.
We offer a bold, forward-thinking curriculum that allows you to study a thousand years of literature in new and progressive ways. Our teaching has involved:

working with unique archives such as the private letters of Virginia Woolf and Doris Lessing

field trips to literary landmarks such as Woolf’s house and the Globe Theatre.
We encourage you to experiment with writing and understand its ability to transform the world we live in. You’ll be supported by our experts. They have links with the creative industries, as well as literary events such as the poetry series Placeholder and the festival The Coast is Queer.
Across the degree, you’ll examine the larger cultural forces that shape literature and performance in order to produce your own critical and creative responses to the world we live in today.

Study on our beautiful, green campus on the edge of the South Downs National Park and just minutes from the vibrant seaside city of Brighton & Hove. We’re near to Gatwick airport and just over an hour from London.

Leaving this behind to travel in my 20s changed this trajectory and inspired me to study Zoology. Meeting incredible scientists and visiting conservation projects sparked a passion for the natural world and its protection. This experience led me to pursue a degree in zoology as a mature student. I have learned about the delicate balance in ecosystems and the pressing need for conservation efforts. I am hoping to build a career in this field. Extended Project
We take the EPQ into account when considering your application and it can be useful in the summer when your results are released if you have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer. We do not routinely include the EPQ in the conditions of your offer but we sometimes offer alternative conditions that include the EPQ.
