Course summary

The Management School is amongst an elite group of business schools to hold the gold standard triple accreditation.

The BA Business Economics programme gives you a firm foundation of knowledge in business economics, as well as a complementary training in a focused business pathway: Accounting and Finance or International Business.

Covering the main principles of business and your chosen pathway you will also study the key areas of economics to understand and put into a business context its role within business, the UK and the wider global economy.

By developing quantitative and analytical skills as well as a broader business knowledge our graduates are highly employable, finding careers in a variety of specialist and general business related roles in companies such as Bank of America, Deloitte, PepsiCo, PwC, Sky as well as smaller specialist firms.

With excellent teaching and quality content the programme is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Exemptions from various examination papers are available upon successful completion of certain modules.

The third year of your programme is spent on placement. You will complete a year-long graduate-level placement, providing valuable work experience and an opportunity to further enhance the skills and attributes sought after by top employers.

You can apply for UK-based placements with a large organisation or smaller company or even seek a placement overseas. You will be visited at least twice by University staff whilst on placement with support from the Placement Team throughout and complete related assessments in May.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A

Accepted including two A levels at AB.

Extended Project - A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAB or ABB plus A in the EPQ.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H3

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics at grade 7/A and GCSE English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications and applicants who do not meet the GCSE English requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Tuition fees for Home undergraduates
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2024, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

For UK students applying for 2024 entry the Tuition Fees are £9,250.

• Foundation programmes: the fee for the foundation year of specified programmes at Carmel College

• Programmes with a year in industry or a year abroad:
Some programmes which include compulsory fieldwork or additional elements such as the Pilots Licence in Aerospace Engineering may incur additional costs. Where this is the case, those costs will be outlined at on-campus events such as the University Open Days or Post Application Visit Days
