Develop the knowledge and skills for a career in the global food industry. This course balances science and business. It is taught by the School of Biosciences and the Business School.
You'll study:
food processing and operations
product development and quality assurance
business management
You'll learn through lectures and practical activities in our Food Processing Facility. Visits to food companies and events enable you to see the latest technologies. A feature of the course is the strong interaction with the food industry. External speakers give lectures and attend networking events.
There is an opportunity to complete your research project in collaboration with the food industry. Many students do this on an industry placement. Projects can be factory, laboratory or literature based.
Core modules cover factory design and operations. You'll learn about the hygiene, quality and legislation of manufacturing food. Working as a team, you will participate in a problem-based learning module in collaboration with the food industry.
Further modules will cover all aspects of quality management and the techniques used. You'll study supply chain planning, forecasting and production management. A year-long module covers all the core skills you'll need for a career in the food industry. You'll learn these through practical activities in the food processing facility, alongside lectures.
As part of the masters degree, you'll carry out a research project. This takes place either on-campus or as part of an industrial placement. You will design the study, use data collection and analysis and prepare a report.
