Course summary

Study mechanical, electronic and systems engineering at GCU and work with the latest technology in control, instrumentation and electronics.

You will develop skills in mechanical engineering, computer-aided engineering, control engineering, electronic engineering and systems design engineering. The degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) and on graduation, you can go on to a wide range of excellent career options including progressing to masters level study and Chartered Engineer status.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMM

Year 1 Entry: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma MMM in Engineering/Technology subject. Must include Maths Year 2 Entry: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at DDM plus GCSE English at grade C/4

Access to HE Diploma - M: 45 credits

60 credits overall with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit in a relevant Engineering subject

Scottish Higher - BBCC

including Maths plus a Science or Technology subject

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 26 points

including HL Maths plus a science or technology subject at HL grade 4

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H3, H3, H3, H3

including Maths plus a Science or Technology subject

Scottish HNC - Pass

Year 2 Entry: 15 credit HNC Mechanical Engineering with B in the Graded Unit including Engineering Mathematics 1, 2, 3 and 4. Attendance and pass at Maths Summer School is essential for those without at least Engineering Maths 3 and 4

Scottish HND - Pass

Year 3 Entry: HND in Mechanical Engineering with B in the Graded Units and Engineering Mathematics 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Attendance and pass at Maths Summer School is essential for those without Mathematics for Engineering Mathematics 5.

Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass

Accepted as equivalent to one Higher at grade B as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.

T Level - Pass (C and above)

Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control; Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing; Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing

Attendance and pass at Maths Summer School is essential for those without relevant Maths units.
