Course summary
The construction industry is thriving and shows no sign of stopping. According to a Global Construction 2030 report, the volume of construction output is forecast to grow by 85% by 2030, with the UK being a stand-out growth market in Europe.

Studying construction project management at Heriot-Watt gives you the vital skills and versatility required by an increasingly dynamic industry. Our course aims to provide students with the knowledge, leadership and management skills necessary for the effective delivery of construction projects from inception to occupation. This course has a strong emphasis on construction technology with module options that give students a background in valuation and procurement.
We have a suite of built environment facilities including: a light structures lab, an Instron Universal testing machine, an immersive virtual reality system, Autodesk Revit software and Synchro 4D virtual construction software to create simulations.
In Year 1 you can participate in a walking tour of Edinburgh viewing the architecture of the Old and New Town.
In Year 2 you have the opportunity to participate in Constructionarium, which provides hands-on construction working alongside professional engineers and tradesmen to construct scaled down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects from all around the world.
In Year 3, you have the opportunity to gain work experience via the Culture of External MENToring (CEMENT) scheme, which links students with professionals in practice to offer work placements, graduate employment opportunities and site visits. There are also field trip opportunities to a European city looking at the construction of some of the world’s most recognisable buildings.
In Year 4, students undertake a week long collaborative design project working with students from across the built environment disciplines.

Scottish HNC - Pass
HNC in relevant subject with C in graded unit for entry to Year 1.
For Year 2 entry: HNC with B in graded unit.
Scottish HND - Pass
For Year 2 entry: HND with BC in graded units.
For Year 3 entry: HND in relevant subject with BB in graded units.
Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass
We accept Foundation Apprenticeships in combination with other qualifications such as SQA Highers and Advanced Highers.
T Level
We will consider T Levels as suitable for entry to our degree programmes, however, certain subject requirements may be required for entry to specific programmes. Where this is not evident as part of the T Level studies, we may ask for additional qualifications.
We operate contextual admissions defined by our Fair Access Policy which may mean entry requirements are flexible.
We accept a wide range of other qualifications from the UK, Europe and International countries. Please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office for further information on the entry requirements for these.

The University guarantees to make a minimum entry offer to anyone who would be considered a Home or Rest of UK (RUK) applicant and who has achieved, or can achieve, the required grades from the following categories:
Priority postcode areas – Home Scottish applicants from SIMD20 postcodes or RUK applicants from POLAR 4 quintile 1 areas – identified through Scottish and UK government targets.
Care experience – Home Scottish or RUK applicants who have had experience of care, including adoption, kinship care, foster care and home supervision orders.
English language requirements
Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not been educated previously in the English language must provide evidence of their English language ability to ensure they can cope with the demands of a Heriot-Watt programme taught and assessed in English.
