Course summary

Specialise in computer-based advanced design, simulation and modelling and help to design the world we live in.

  • This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

  • Study on a cutting-edge course developed in line with industry standards.

  • Experience a holistic and applied approach to learning that integrates mechanical and electronic engineering and robotics.

  • Get to grips with practical challenges using our dedicated engineering labs and state-of-the-art computer simulation facilities.

  • Learn from expert staff who, as seasoned researchers and experienced industry professionals, ensure course content is true-to-life, hands-on and relevant.

As a Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering student at ARU, you’ll use manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics and structural analysis to analyse, calculate, model and experience a range of engineering concepts. You’ll specialise in computer-based advance design, simulation and modelling.

Based in Chelmsford, you'll use our dedicated engineering labs which include CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centres, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment, and much more.

You’ll build your CV not only by learning manufacturing and testing methods and using industry-standard equipment, but by solving problems and carrying out research. Our Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering course is project-based and you'll be hands-on from Year 1. You'll spend time working on projects with other engineering students, developing your teamwork, management and leadership skills and learning how to analyse and solve problems creatively.

You'll also meet established engineers from across the industry, learn what it’s like to work in engineering, and be encouraged to join professional bodies, building valuable contacts and knowledge.

At ARU, our expert staff are experienced industry professionals and researchers who will guide and advise you throughout the course.

All our engineering courses are in line with the new Engineering Council requirements (AHEP 4.0).

If you decide to start your degree in January, your first academic year will run from January until August and your second year will commence in September. Our commitment is to ensure that you gain the same level of teaching as those students who started in September when you join them in your second year.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

ARU operates a policy of making contextualised offers for this course which may be a reduced conditional offer or an unconditional offer, using data from UCAS to make our assessment. We consider that this approach promotes the equality of educational opportunity for applicants from low participation groups in HE. ARU welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and helping them achieve their full potential. The offer of a place through the contextual offer process is at the discretion of ARU.
