The Higher National Diploma in Engineering is a taught programme of academic study and is suited to students continuing from their HNC in Engineering. The purpose of the qualification is to equip students with the knowledge necessary to develop their careers to engineer level employment. Students may wish to continue from the HND qualification to university to top-up to a degree level qualification.
Part-time classroom based delivery from 08.45 to 17.30 one day per week (day to be confirmed). In addition to this you are expected to complete an average of 3 hours independant study per week.
Modules include: Further Mathematics for Engineering Technicians - Core Module, Analytical Methods- Core Module, Engineering Science (Mechanical and Electrical)- Core Module, Project Design- Core Module, Implementation and Evaluation- Core Module, Mechanical Principles – Mandatory Module for Mechanical Engineering Pathway, Electrical and Electronic Principles – Mandatory Module for Electrical and Electronic Engineering Pathway, Plant and Process Principles - Mandatory Module for Operations Engineering Pathway, Planning and Scheduling Principles - Mandatory Module for Manufacturing Engineering Pathway, Materials Engineering, Advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD), Application of Pneumatics and Hydraulics, Supply Chain Management, Instrumentation and Control Principles, Programmable Logic Controllers, Combination and Sequential Logic, Quality and Business Improvement, Plant Maintenance and Decommissioning, Engineering Design, Heath, Safety and Risk Assessment in Engineering, Business Management Techniques for Engineers, Design for Manufacture, Employability Skills, Further Analytical Methods for Engineers, Energy Management and Engineering Thermodynamics.
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through assignment-based coursework, although there are some internally set tests. You will be assessed by the College and then externally moderated by BTEC Edexcel.

Heart of Worcestershire College is not a licensed student sponsor for UK student visa's. We are therefore unable to issue student visa's for study in the UK under the Tier 4 UK immigration points based system.
You will need one of the following to apply for the course:
A relevant BTEC National/ Extended Certificate/ Diploma in Engineering.
A full AVCE award or Advanced GNVQ in Engineering.
A-levels in mathematics or an appropriate science, with evidence that other subjects have been studied to an appropriate level.
Related work experience or qualifications deemed equivalent to those above.

Heart of Worcestershire College is offering HE Boost award of up to £1500 each to all first year full time HE students. The funding will paid in 3 equal instalments at the end of October, January and May. If you are applying for your first year of your first Higher Education course and have “Firmly” accepted an offer of a place on a HE programme at Heart of Worcestershire College as your first choice (not insurance) you may be eligible. To be eligible you must meet the national criteria: • Normally resident in England • Have a household income of less than £25,000 (as assessed through Student Finance England) • Self funding, not sponsored by an employer, the NHS nor the Training and Development Agency for Schools. Please note that due to the limited nature of these funds meeting the criteria does not equate to an entitlement to the Boost award. Each application will be considered by the panel of senior staff based on the information provided.
