Course summary

This degree provides you with an excellent education in literature, drama and film, combining a flexible approach and wide range of option choices with extensive historical coverage. You will deepen your knowledge of literary texts and gain a firm foundation in the critical and theoretical skills needed to analyse them. There are also opportunities to practise creative writing and theatre, to make films or take a work placement in one of the region's cultural industries.

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAB

Either including English Literature or English Language and Literature, or including evidence of readiness to begin university-level study in literature (such as A-levels in other arts and humanities subjects).

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - Not accepted

Access to HE Diploma - D: 36 credits M: 9 credits

To include at least 9 Level 3 credits in English Literature at Distinction.

Scottish Higher - AAABB

Including English. Advanced Higher English at grade A is preferred. Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted. Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 34 points

either including English Literature or English Language at Higher Level, grade 5, or including evidence of readiness to begin university-level study in literature (such as study in other arts and humanities subjects).

Extended Project

If you offer the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification in a topic relevant to the degree programme, we may take this into account in our consideration of your application.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H1, H2, H2, H3

With minimum Grade H2 in English.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, M2

Including English or including evidence of readiness to begin university-level study in literature (such as principal subjects in other arts and humanities subjects).
