Dental Hygienist/Therapists are highly skilled professionals who promote good dental health care as part of a team - providing preventative, periodontal & restorative therapies in adults & children's teeth, through clinical treatment and education.

This exciting and challenging programme is taught in Glasgow Dental Hospital, Glasgow Caledonian University and a number of outreach centres. The Dental School’s clinical skills laboratories have superb facilities and state of the art teaching technologies.

Standard Qualification requirements

A level - BCC

to include Biology

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DMM

must include Biology, plus GCSE English at C/4

Scottish Higher - BBBB

including Biology or Human Biology plus Nat 5 English

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H2, H3, H3

to include Biology plus English at O2

Scottish HNC - Pass

HNC in relevant field of study will be considered on an individual basis i.e. Dental Nursing alongside Highers being worked towards/completed. Also requires BBB at Higher including Biology or Human Biology

Scottish HND - Pass

HND in relevant field of study will be considered on an individual basis i.e. Dental Nursing alongside Highers being worked towards/completed. Also require BB at Higher including Biology or Human Biology

Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass

Accepted as equivalent to one Higher at grade B as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.

T Level - M

Health and Science: Science Health and Science: Healthcare Science Health and Science: Health plus GCSE Maths and English at B/6

SWAP Access to Medical Studies & Access to Biological and Chemical Sciences with an overall profile of BBB and 65% in the Biology Unit.
Access to STEM if it covers Three units of National 5 Chemistry; Three units of Higher Chemistry; Three units of National 5 Biology; Three units of Higher Biology; Three units of National 5 Maths; Communications; Guidance and preparation for higher education with an overall profile of BBB and 65% in the Biology Unit.
Other Science based Access courses will be considered, please enquire.
