Course summary

Understanding human behaviour is not only fascinating, but is highly valued in various contexts – from the diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems to the improvement of performance at work or in sport.

Our BSc (Hons) Psychology degree offers a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of psychological science, and explores how this theory can be applied to real-world issues.

Teaching is influenced by the 'world-leading' and 'internationally excellent' research of our academic staff, who have expertise and professional experience in areas including: eating behaviour, chronic illness, parenting and social inclusion, substance abuse and behavioural addictions, sleep quality and mental health, and more.

Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) you are able to tailor the degree to your interests and career aspirations through a range of optional modules.

The degree provides a foundation for postgraduate study or further professional training for careers in counselling or clinical, educational, occupational, forensic or health psychology.

You can choose to study the degree as a three-year course, or over four years to include a placement or study abroad opportunity. Transfer between the three and four-year psychology course options is normally possible.

Assessment method

For this course, assessment will depend on the nature of the module material.

Some modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination (for example 25% coursework and 75% examination), whilst other modules are assessed by 100% coursework or 100% by examination. Coursework is based on a variety of tasks including individual essays, projects, in-class tests, lab reports, contribution in tutorials, group work and presentations.

Our study support services and extensive resources are designed to help you succeed during your studies. You will also have access to an academic tutor, as well as student course representatives to help you through your course.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Applicants taking the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma will be asked to achieve the A level requirements for their course as part of their qualification. Extended Project

We recognise the benefit of the Extended Project in developing independent research and critical thinking skills. GCSE Maths grade 5/C and GCSE English Language grade 6/B We may also consider applicants with a contextual indicator who have achieved Grade 5 in both GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language (or a Grade 4 in one and a Grade 6 in the other). GCSE English Language If you have achieved Grade 5 in GCSE English Language, we can still consider an application if you have Grade 6 or above in GCSE English Literature.
