Course summary

Gain an in-depth understanding of accounting and business management. This degree is a flexible course that can be tailored to your own interests and career plans. You can customise your learning between areas of accounting, financial management and business administration.

On our Accounting and Business Management degree, you'll build your knowledge across many areas, including organisations' management and working environments, resource market development and corporate social responsibility.

We offer a supportive environment with the latest facilities and academic guidance. You'll also benefit from:

Our graduates have diverse career paths across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, in business manager roles with a strong accounting background, or accountant roles with a strong strategic management background.

We also offer a variant of this course with a Placement Year.

Modules

On our Business Management and Accounting course, you'll explore accounting, financial management and business administration, including a Business project.

Some of the modules you may study include Management Analysis; Principles of Audit and Taxation; Critical Perspectives on Organisation and Management; Sustainability Reporting; and Financial Analysis, Information and Markets.

Assessment method

Assessment methods might include written examinations and a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations and projects.

60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3, of which 39 must be at Distinction and 6 credits at Merit Offers typically exclude Social Care/Healthcare pathways.

Scottish Higher

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject). Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

D3, D3, M2 in three Principal subjects Cambridge Pre-U's can be used in combination with other qualifications such as A Levels to achieve the equivalent of the typical offer but care must be taken with subjects when combining qualifications. As per our A level restricted subjects, we can only accept one restricted subject

GCSE/National 4/National 5

Applicants must hold GCSE English language (or GCSE English) (minimum grade 4/C) and mathematics (minimum grade 6*/B). * Grade 5 in mathematics (in the new reformed GCSE's) can be accepted if an applicant has grade B in A levels Maths, Physics, Economics, Geography, Psychology or Business. Please note we cannot accept a grade 5 in mathematics if you are studying other qualifications, the requirement is a grade 6.

OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma

OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in Business is accepted if combined with two suitable A levels with grade A's but care must be taken with subjects and restricted subjects when combining Diplomas and A levels. As per our A level restricted subjects, we can only accept one restricted subject.

We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate, International Foundation Programmes in the UK. You will be expected to attain an equivalent standard to the A level applicant.
