This is a pioneering degree designed to train people who are passionate about the arts as a springboard for social change. This three-year degree programme inspires the next generation of critical practitioners, performance makers and educators wishing to be at the forefront of change that benefits individuals and communities.
You will become a highly adaptable theatre maker, with advanced skills in devising, performing, directing, writing, facilitating and producing. You will train at one of the leading specialist performing arts institutions in the world, building extensive industry networks through events, placements, and working on projects in the field. Working collaboratively, alongside artists and practitioners who bring the latest thinking in the fields of applied theatre and socially engaged practices, you will critically reflect on the ethics, politics, and significance of your work in a rapidly changing world. You will also gain exposure to the use of new technologies and drama in digital environments, and how this can be used in the field of applied theatre.

Modules on the course cover a wide range of practical and theoretical perspectives, study practices, concepts and ideas relating to drama, applied theatre and performance. Students are involved in a full-scale productions in order to understand how drama works in a range of community and educational contexts. Assessment is carefully integrated into the experience of learning and you are encouraged to place your own experiences and practice at the heart of your studies. We welcome applications from overseas candidates. All applications must be made via UCAS. Applicants must attend an in-person interview either in London or at one of our international interview locations. In the past, interviews have been held at venues in New York, San Francisco, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney. International interview venues and dates will be listed on Central's website once they are confirmed.
Applicants who are unable to attend an in-person interview will be invited to book onto a 'distance interview', which will take place on Zoom.
In all cases, grades alone will not determine whether an applicant may be offered a place. Offers are only made following successful interview. International qualifications and others not covered within the UCAS tariff can also be accepted. Please email admissions@cssd.ac.uk if you need further clarification.
