This course aims to provide a course with an emphasis on 'Fitness for Practice' that bridges the gap between theory and practice. The qualification is designed to provide employers with highly employable graduates who can 'hit the ground running' and who require the minimum of on the job training.
This unique course has been created in response to the needs of health and social care providers in the voluntary, private and public sectors to enhance the training and qualifications of their advanced practitioners, operational and managerial staff, to meet the current service quality and performance agenda. This course will be relevant to students working, or intending to work, within the fields of Health and Social Care. Students on this course will need to undertake a total of 250 hours of placement, in setting such as community health dementia suites and care homes. If students are already in employment this can count towards placement hours. This placement experience is integral to ensuring students are able to apply the theory from the classroom into the practical setting and develop their individual skills and abilities within this field.
Year 1: Study Skills and Lifelong Learning Communication and Collaboration Concepts of Human Anatomy and Physiology Mental Health across the Lifespan Foundations for Practice
Year 2: Care Delivery and Care Management in Mental Health Management and Leadership Perspectives on Intervention Supporting Professional Practice
Health and Social Care tutors promote the transfer of learning between academic theory and work based learning. Teaching and learning methods are varied including individual study, lectures, group activities, speakers and on line learning. Work-based learning is integral to the course aims, enabling the evaluation of skills and knowledge in practice. Assessment methods are varied and include exams, presentations, essays, workbooks, portfolio and reflective accounts.

We operate a flexible admissions policy and treat everyone as an individual. This means that we will take into consideration your educational achievements and predicted grades (where applicable) together with your application as a whole, including work experience and personal statement. General Studies accepted. BTEC Extended Diploma:Merit, Pass, Pass Access to Higher Education Diploma: 72 - 80 points GCSE: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths & English or equivalent Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from degree-level studies, are welcome and these applicants will be interviewed. All students must be prepared to undergo and prove they have an enhanced DBS suitable to work with vulnerable adults and children. This incurs an additional cost.
