More about the Professional Placement Year
A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where you undertake a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between your second and final years of undergraduate study. You can engage in multiple placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) yourself, with support from the Careers team.
<strong>Year one</strong>
You'll be introduced to the broader business and cultural environments that link and inform the fashion industry. You'll start to develop your digital skillset and understanding, and explore how fashion brands communicate.
<strong>Year two</strong>
To accompany the core fashion modules, you'll have the opportunity to choose three modules that support your own career goals, allowing you to focus on media creation, business management, or a mix of both.
In the second semester, you'll have the opportunity to connect with and explore the brand of your choice, giving you an insight into how a business functions, and allowing you to develop your understanding of an employer's needs.
In year two, you'll have the opportunity to engage with live briefs.
<strong>Year three</strong>
This is your Professional Placement Year.
<strong>Final year</strong>
Your final year allows you to focus on projects that support exploration and development relating to the sector of the fashion industry that you'd most like to work in.
At Bath Spa, we pride ourselves on authentic assessments that reflect the realities of the industry. Assignments may include: producing marketing reports, presentations, creating films, time constrained assessments, producing an event, essays, reflective writing as well as both individual and group projects.
