Course summary

There has never been a more urgent need to study the environment. Learn how to manage, protect and enhance our interconnected built and natural ecosystems with our BSc (Hons) Environmental Management with Foundation Year degree

We’ve designed this course to help you understand the interrelationship between science and the environment, and learn how organisations use this knowledge to make decisions and considerations to improve their environmental performance.

Develop in-demand environmental knowledge and skills
This foundation year pathway is designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of the social and natural sciences. You will also experience field and laboratory work, develop your study skills and learn to manage field data. Once you successfully complete foundation year, you will progress to the full BSc (Hons) Environmental Management honours degree.

Delivered across a further three years of study - or four, if you choose to include an industry placement - you will build knowledge in sustainability, environmental resources, earth processes and the impact of people on places. As you progress, you will expand your subject knowledge and specialise in areas such as occupational risk management.

During your studies, you will complete projects out in the field and in our laboratories. Fieldwork is integral to your learning, and trips are aligned with the modules so you can build applied skills and gain practical experience. Recent trips have included residential courses across the UK, in places on our doorstep
such as the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, as well as further afield at international locations, such as Scandinavia and Barcelona.

Get closer to industry
We’ve designed this course to open-up emerging career opportunities in sustainable natural resource management, development and planning, where you can help to reduce the impact of climate change and make a difference.

On this course can develop transferable skills in writing and presentation skills, teamwork and project management skills, and experience industry collaboration through our real-world focused consultancy project module. Once you join the BSc degree, you will also have the option to include an industry placement year between years two and three.
